Animal Care Hydrocortisone Aceponate 0.584 mg/ml Cutaneous Spray Solution is a prescription topical medicine licensed for use in dogs. Containing hydrocortisone aceponate as the active ingredient — a potent dermocorticoid glucocorticoid — it works by penetrating the skin to provide localised anti-inflammatory and antipruritic activity. It is used for the symptomatic treatment of inflammatory and pruritic skin conditions and for alleviating clinical signs associated with atopic dermatitis in dogs. This is a POM-V product and requires a valid veterinary prescription before it can be supplied.
Product Description
Animal Care Hydrocortisone Aceponate Cutaneous Spray Solution is indicated for two dermatological conditions in dogs. Before initiating treatment for atopic dermatitis, other causes of similar signs — such as ectoparasitic infestations and infections — should be ruled out, and underlying causes investigated.
For Dogs:
Symptomatic treatment of inflammatory and pruritic dermatoses; applied daily for 7 consecutive days, with re-evaluation if signs do not improve within 7 days
Alleviation of clinical signs associated with atopic dermatitis; applied daily for at least 14 and up to 28 consecutive days, with veterinary review at day 14 to assess whether further treatment is required
Which Animals Can Use Animal Care Hydrocortisone Aceponate Cutaneous Spray Solution?
This product is licensed for use in dogs only. It must not be used on cutaneous ulcers, or in animals with known hypersensitivity to hydrocortisone aceponate or to propylene glycol methyl ether. Use in dogs under 7 months of age or those with Cushing's syndrome should only be considered following a risk-benefit assessment by your vet. Always use only under the direction of your vet.

Important Warnings
Source: SPC Sections 3.4 & 3.5
Before treating for atopic dermatitis, other causes of dermatological signs — including ectoparasitic infestations and infections — should be excluded; underlying causes should be investigated and treated appropriately
Total body surface treated should not exceed approximately one third of the dog's surface area; if a larger area requires treatment, use should be based on veterinary risk-benefit assessment with regular clinical evaluations
Use in young animals under 7 months of age should be based on veterinary risk-benefit assessment with regular clinical evaluations, as glucocorticosteroids are known to slow growth
Use in animals with Cushing's syndrome should be based on veterinary risk-benefit assessment in the absence of specific safety data
If signs of inflammatory/pruritic dermatosis fail to improve within 7 days, treatment must be re-evaluated by the veterinarian
For atopic dermatitis, a veterinary review must be conducted at day 14; the dog should be re-evaluated regularly for HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) suppression or skin atrophy, both of which may be asymptomatic
In the absence of compatibility data, do not apply other topical preparations simultaneously to the same lesions
The formulation is flammable — do not spray near naked flame or any incandescent material; do not smoke while handling this product
The active substance is potentially pharmacologically active at high doses of human exposure
The formulation may cause eye irritation following accidental ocular contact; wash hands after use and avoid contact with eyes
Do not handle recently treated animals until the application site is completely dry, to avoid skin contact with the product
Apply the spray in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhalation of product vapour
In case of accidental skin contact, avoid hand-to-mouth contact and wash the exposed area immediately with water
In case of accidental eye contact, rinse with abundant quantities of water; if eye irritation persists, seek medical advice
In case of accidental ingestion, especially by children, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or label to the physician
The solvent in this product may stain painted, varnished, or other household surfaces or furnishings; allow the application site to dry before permitting contact with such materials
Care should be taken to avoid spraying into the eyes of the animal being treated
