Bonqat 50 mg/ml Oral Solution is a prescription-only oral anxiolytic licensed exclusively for use in cats, for the alleviation of acute anxiety and fear associated with transportation and veterinary visits. Each ml contains pregabalin 50 mg — a structural analogue of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) that binds to the alpha2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system, reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate and producing an anxiolytic effect. Bonqat is administered as a single oral dose approximately 1.5 hours before the stressful event, with effects lasting approximately 7 hours. It is a POM-V product and, as pregabalin is a Schedule 3 Controlled Drug, it is subject to additional legal requirements governing prescription, supply and record-keeping. A valid veterinary prescription is required before this product can be dispensed.
Product Description
Bonqat 50 mg/ml Oral Solution is indicated for a single, specific behavioural indication in cats. It is not licensed for continuous or repeated daily use, and must only be used in cats for whom its use has been assessed as appropriate by the prescribing veterinarian.
For Cats:
Alleviation of acute anxiety and fear associated with transportation and veterinary visits
The product is administered as a single oral dose of 5 mg/kg bodyweight (0.1 ml/kg) approximately 1.5 hours before the start of transportation or the planned veterinary visit. It may be administered directly into the mouth or mixed with a small amount of food. Large amounts of food may delay the onset of effect. An oral syringe graduated in 0.1 ml increments is provided in the pack.
The prescribing veterinarian should advise the owner to always inform the attending veterinarian if Bonqat has been administered to the cat prior to the veterinary visit.
Which Animals Can Use Bonqat?
Bonqat 50 mg/ml Oral Solution is licensed for use in cats only. It must not be used in animals with known hypersensitivity to pregabalin or to any of the excipients. The safety of this product has not been established in cats weighing less than 2 kg, younger than 5 months, or older than 15 years; use in these animals should only be considered on the basis of a veterinary benefit-risk assessment. The safety of this product has only been established in healthy cats or those with mild systemic illness; it has not been established in animals with moderate or severe systemic disease, including moderate to severe renal, liver or cardiovascular disease. Always ensure a valid prescription is in place before ordering.

This is a prescription medication and must be used exactly as directed by your veterinary surgeon. The cat's health status should always be assessed before the product is prescribed. Administer orally as a single dose of 5 mg/kg bodyweight (0.1 ml/kg) approximately 1.5 hours before the start of transportation or the planned veterinary visit, using the oral syringe provided. The product can be given directly into the mouth or mixed with a small amount of food; large amounts of food may delay onset of action.
Do not re-dose if the cat spits part of the dose, vomits after treatment, or shows hypersalivation, or if the product does not appear to have any effect.
The effect can last approximately 7 hours. If the cat appears drowsy or shows signs of exaggerated effects after administration, keep the cat indoors and do not offer food or water until the cat has fully recovered. If the cat seems uncoordinated or overly tired, keep it warm.
