Lanflox 100 mg/ml Solution is a prescription-only veterinary antibiotic medicine licensed for use in chickens and turkeys, formulated for administration via the drinking water to treat bacterial and mycoplasmal respiratory infections. Containing enrofloxacin as the active substance — a synthetic, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic that acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase — Lanflox provides bactericidal activity against a range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and mycoplasmas. It is a POM-V product and requires a valid veterinary prescription prior to dispensing.
Product Description
Lanflox Oral Solution is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria susceptible to enrofloxacin. Wherever possible, use should be based on susceptibility testing of the causative organism, and official national and regional antimicrobial policies should be taken into account. Fluoroquinolones are critically important antimicrobials and should be reserved for conditions that have responded poorly, or are expected to respond poorly, to other classes of antimicrobials.
For Chickens:
Treatment of infections caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum
Treatment of infections caused by Mycoplasma synoviae
Treatment of infections caused by Avibacterium paragallinarum
Treatment of infections caused by Pasteurella multocida
For Turkeys:
Treatment of infections caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum
Treatment of infections caused by Mycoplasma synoviae
Treatment of infections caused by Pasteurella multocida
Which Animals Can Use Lanflox Solution?
Lanflox Solution is licensed for use in chickens and turkeys only. It must not be used in birds producing eggs for human consumption, for prophylaxis, or in flocks where resistance or cross-resistance to (fluoro)quinolones is known to occur. The product is not licensed for use in any other species. Always use only under the direction of your vet.

Directions for Use
Lanflox Solution is a prescription medication and must be used exactly as directed by your veterinary surgeon. The solution is administered orally via the drinking water — it may be added directly to a header tank or supplied through a water-proportioner system. Before use, header tanks must be emptied, thoroughly cleaned, and filled with a known volume of clean water before adding the required amount of product; the resulting mixture should be stirred. Medicated water must be the only source of water available to birds throughout the treatment period. Medicated water must be prepared fresh every day, immediately before offering. Use appropriate calibrated dosing equipment. Treatment duration is 3 to 5 consecutive days; if no clinical improvement is achieved within 2 to 3 days, susceptibility testing should be repeated and alternative therapy considered. Refer to the dispensing label and product datasheet for full dosing calculations.

Important Warnings

Antimicrobial stewardship: Fluoroquinolones should be reserved for clinical conditions that have responded poorly, or are expected to respond poorly, to other classes of antimicrobials; wherever possible, use should be based on susceptibility testing; use deviating from SPC instructions may increase the prevalence of fluoroquinolone-resistant bacteria and decrease the effectiveness of treatment with other quinolones due to cross-resistance potential; official and local antimicrobial policies must be taken into account
Resistance monitoring: Since enrofloxacin was first authorised for use in poultry, there has been widespread reduction in susceptibility of E. coli to fluoroquinolones and emergence of resistant organisms; resistance has also been reported in Mycoplasma synoviae in the EU
Mycoplasma infections: Treatment of Mycoplasma spp. infections may not eradicate the organism
Clinical response monitoring: If no clinical improvement is achieved within 2 to 3 days, susceptibility testing should be repeated and alternative antimicrobial therapy should be considered
Drug interactions — antagonism: Concurrent use of enrofloxacin with other antimicrobials, tetracyclines, and macrolide antibiotics may result in antagonistic effects; avoid concurrent use
Drug interactions — reduced absorption: Absorption of enrofloxacin may be reduced if the product is administered together with substances containing magnesium or aluminium; high concentrations of calcium and magnesium in the water system may cause precipitation of enrofloxacin during intermediate dilution in dosing devices
Drug interactions — steroidal anti-inflammatories: Do not combine enrofloxacin with steroidal anti-inflammatory products
Precipitation: Increased influx of air into medicated drinking water may cause precipitation of enrofloxacin; avoid admixing
Dosing accuracy: Carefully calculate total body mass to be treated and total daily water consumption before each treatment; intake of medicated water depends on the age and clinical condition of birds, ambient temperature, and lighting regime — adjust concentration accordingly to ensure correct dosage
Human safety — Gloves required: Wear impervious gloves when handling the product; direct contact with the skin should be avoided as it may cause sensitisation, contact dermatitis, and hypersensitivity reactions
Human safety — Skin and eye contact: In case of skin or eye contact, rinse the affected area immediately with clean water; if irritation persists, seek medical attention
Human safety — Hypersensitivity: People with known hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones should avoid contact with this product
Do not eat, drink, or smoke whilst using this product
Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly after use
